A new mecca for outdoor enthusiasts, Wholesale Sports Outdoor Outfitters opened its doors at 9 a.m. Thursday at the Snyatan Shopping Centre in Westbank.
The grand opening began with a brief ribbon cutting ceremony that included special guest speakers from Westbank First Nation. Elder Wilfred “Grouse” Barnes, performed a traditional prayer and blessing of the store, and Councillor Mike De Guevara, delivered an opening speech.
“We have a deep respect and commitment to the land on which we hunt, fish and camp, and our relationship with Westbank First Nation means a lot to us,” said Glenn Bingley, Chief Operating Officer for Wholesale Sports.
“[Wholesale Sports] is good for the economy because it will serve thousands and thousands of people in this area, and we’re glad that you share the same love for the outdoors,” said Councillor De Guevara.
“We’re excited to be part of the Westbank community, and to offer high-quality equipment, industry-leading brands and expert advice to prepare you for your next adventure. We entered the market at the ideal time, just before fishing and camping season,” said Bingley.
“Stop in and get to know our associates; they’re friendly, nature-loving and have the inside scoop on the best places to explore,” said John Pardo, Director of Canadian Operations, Wholesale Sports.
The company says it selected the Okanagan because the region attracts locals and visitors who are passionate about hunting, fishing, camping and outdoor adventure.
Approximately 30 people will be employed at the new store.
World-renowned for its rugged terrain and natural beauty, the Okanagan region attracts locals and visitors who are passionate about hunting, fishing, camping and outdoor adventure. The Westbank store is the 13th Wholesale Sports location in Western Canada and the second to open in BC in the last 12 months.
