B.C.’s former finance minister and long-time Cloverdale MLA is leaving politics for the real estate development sector.
Kevin Falcon ended months of speculation about his future plans Friday, when it was announced he’s going to work for Anthem Capital Corp. next month.
Falcon joins Anthem Capital as its executive vice president, effective May 16 – two days after the provincial election.
In August, Falcon announced he was leaving politics to spend more time with his young family. He’s represented Surrey-Cloverdale for 12 years, and has served in a variety of high-profile cabinet positions, including the transportation and health ministries. He’s also been deputy premier.
In 2011, he ran for the leadership of the B.C. Liberal Party, losing out to premier Christy Clark.
Anthem Capital Corp. is a member of the Anthem Group of Companies, including Anthem Properties, the Vancouver-based real estate developer behind such Surrey projects as Brickyard Station, a shopping plaza in Cloverdale.
Falcon will play a leadership role in the oversight and growth of Anthem Capital’s business portfolio, company founder and CEO Eric Carlson said in a press release.
As executive vice president, Falcon will liaise with the company’s financial partners and assist related companies – including Anthem Properties – in raising equity funds from institutional and individual investors, the release states.
