Neighbourhood

A charming seaside enclave in Richmond.

With its fishing boats bobbing in the harbour and a rich seafaring history, Steveston is endearingly unique. Local shops sell everything from handcrafted home goods to authentic fish and chips – and most storefronts portray unique historical seaside décor and architecture.

Steveston Neighbourhood

Ride your bike to Fisherman’s Wharf, take a stroll along the waterfront and buy seafood directly off the boats. Within this slower paced lifestyle, you will also find conveniences, such as farm-fresh grocers, restaurants and schools. There is a dreamy element of everyday enchantment when you live at Georgia.

“We wanted to bring something special and unique to the village.”

When Lloyd Kinney and his partners opened the Britannia Brewing Company in 2016, they were excited to contribute to Steveston’s food scene while paying homage to its nautical past, serving their naturally crafted beers alongside locally sourced food. At a central location within the village, the space has become one of Richmond’s favourite restaurants — particularly for Steveston locals who can easily walk or bike to the charming tasting room.

“People here know each other — there’s a small-town community feel.”

Village Bikes, a full-service bike shop, has been encouraging Steveston’s biking community for over 13 years. But its founder, Brett Martyniuk, has even deeper ties to the community. His business is located in a heritage building that has been passed down through his family for generations. Seventy years ago, his great-grandfather lived in the back while operating a barbershop from its storefront. Like many who call Steveston home, Brett is part of its history and is growing its future.
